This story starts two months after the Baker's good friend, Mr. Jigson, died (Book 5 - Prisoner of the Pyrenees.) There is NO recap, with the reader being taken straight into the new story/adventure. As it had been a while since we read Book #5 it took us a little longer to get into/remember what had happened.Phil, oldest Baker child, is working on a complicated invention for the International Invention Competition. He is one of only twelve contestants left in the running. He is trying to invent a "gadget that generates electrical energy from sound vibrations". He also needs a "sound-wave that can efficiently travel through the earth's crust or the ionosphere". Where's the energy going to come from? Iceland has a lot of geothermal energy and their other good friend, Detective Mortimer, knows a recluse living in an Icelandic volcano who may be willing to help ensure that Phil's inventions are safe. Is there a catch? Yes, the whole family has to go with him! This includes teenage twins, Andy and Abby, younger brother Tom and their parents. Genuinely upset and still grieving over the death of Mr. Jigson, Phil is understandably concerned that the family will once again "attract" danger but he agrees to go. Does the danger "find" them? Oh yes! Adventure, danger, capture, baddies from previous books and new ones all appear to descend on this family. What is the GlowRay? What is the big surprise? The story also encompasses some of the famous sights and history of Iceland making this an educational read too.
Although a stand alone story I would VERY MUCH advise readers to start at the beginning of the series and read the books in order as they are all definitely linked. This is a FABULOUS, Christian adventure series that you can let your children read alone without fear of them reading something they should not. The children are VERY respectful to each other, their parents and other elders. Refreshing! We read this aloud as a family and are now starting Book #7.

This book was CRAZY good! Miss Hedgcock's books get better and better and better! This book kept me intrigued the entire time and the characters seemed so realistic. If you haven't read the earlier books PLEASE do.

It's a mixture of Sci-Fi, adventure, and family fun entertainment! And it's all centered around Christ, which is what really made this story enjoyable.

C.R. Hedgcock does a wonderful job with her adventure stories. They are wonderful, clean and wholesome fun for the whole family. Iceland Intrigue was another book of hers that left you in such suspense and challenged. All her stories bring in God and the bible. It is such a blessing to have such wonderful stories to read as a family. This is number 6 of the series. Her first book was great and each book makes you want to find out what happens next in the Baker family Adventures, plus keeping the series focused on God and his ways. Thank you so much and looking forward to your next book.
